Part 2 of the Don't Retire. Rewire. series.

Let's retire a tired slogan: AI won't take your banking job. But a banker who knows how to use AI? That person might take your lunch, your promotion, and eventually your role. The threat isn't the machine — it's the colleague who got curious six months before you did.

The antidote isn't a certification or a conference. It's getting your hands on the tools. Open the chatbots, the copilots, the document summarizers, and start using them on your real work — the credit memo you're drafting, the policy you're reviewing, the client briefing you're preparing. Fluency comes from reps, not reading.

Build yourself a safe practice lab. Pick one low-risk workflow and run it with AI assistance for thirty days. Draft the first version with the machine, then interrogate it like a junior analyst's work: what's missing, what's wrong, what would a regulator ask? You're not training the AI — you're training yourself to direct it.

Then give AI real jobs. Not gimmicks, but genuine assignments with genuine accountability: first-pass research, meeting summaries, scenario drafts. Keep the decisions. Delegate the drafts. That's the rewired banker's operating model.

In the next part, we go deeper: you don't need to code, but you do need to stop nodding.
